The table or the lack thereof communicates something about our family, our upbringing; it was around the table that values and social norms imparted and social etiquette requested.
This is true today and more so during Jesus’ day. In antiquity eating around the table established boundaries about who was in and who was out. The seating arrangement enforced those boundaries. In this study, we'll examine several stories in the Scriptures where Jesus used meals as a means of disrupting social values and overturning usual standards of behavior and honor.
